The Wall & Trevor Boris

So I think one of my favorite amenities on campus is definitely The Wall. Its basically an on-campus bar, which is great for students who don't feel like busssing downtown to the Moose or the Zoo on a friday night. While it is a bar, it also doubles as a restaurant/pub with a very great, but cheap, menu. While I love going to the wall on a regular basis for breakfast or lunch, I mainly go for the Dinner and Shows. Buddah has to be a genius at his job or something because the acts that he has gotten this year are friggin great. For example we've had the DanBand, Mantracker, Stephanie Pratt, Alexisonfire, Metric, and most recently he had Much Musics Trevor Boris (above picture) to do a stand up act, while this standup act was done before, it was still a great show! I definitely love going to the wall for all these shows. P.s I saw a sign in the bathroom at the wall and someone got bottle clapped? really? who would do that? Oh well, if anyone knows anything, theres a 500 dollar reward for the conviction of the guy who did this. Ridiculous, that is exactly why I dont like the club scene, alcohol makes people angry.!

The Beauty Of Nipissing!

So most people coming into Nipissing in their first year most likely want the upper residence for convenience, but I think living at the lower residence is the best choice that anyone can make. Not only are the residence complex's more private, but they are easier to catch a bus at. But the best part of living at lower rez is the walk to and from campus. While it is an enduring walk, it is beautiful. Even if you live at upper rez I would reccomend just taking a walk on the trails during the day because they are beautiful. All the nature that surrounds this school is amazing.

P.s A Big shoutout to Pauline from CH, you da bomb ;)

Nipissing Blog! January 20th 2010 - Procrastination?

What is it about being in university that makes me want to do all of my assignments last minute? is it the FEELING of fear of not completing the project/essay on time. Or is it just that we have too much homework? Personally in my opinion it is that we get too much homework with not so much time to do it. Why do I have to make a scrapbook thats worth 25% of my grade? What skill does that show you I possess? NOTHING. Or why do I have to act out a monologue for you? Does that show you that I am capable of teaching english? I dont think it does. Oh well. Like I understand the projects in my education class because theyre teaching us to deal with children and get in that mindset, but, again, why do i have to create a scrapbook of newspaper articles. Anyway, back to procrastination. I find that, especially living in residence, there is always something to do, and I get easily distracted from my work. Then I start to freak out the night before and end up staying up all night to finish a 1000 word essay, something that wouldn't have taken me more than a night back in high school. Maybe its the pressure of having one assignment wort 15% of our final grade, and we fret so much over doing well that we tend to keep making it better and better, its like an art project you have to keep trimming, you're going to end up with something smaller than what you started with. For some people this isnt true, but for me it is. I tend to criticize myself so much taht i always change my initial idea's, but i always end up getting a decent mark.

p.s don applicants! don letters are out!

Nipissing Blog! January 19th 2010 - Today

One of the greatest things that I find about the academic aspect of being at university (stupid comment, but you get what I mean) is choosing your schedule! When you're in High School you have to go through the guidance councilors if you wanted any changes done, but here you can do whatever you want, whenever you want to your schedule. I have tuesdays and thursdays off, which is just great for me, because its like I get a mini weekend every other day. I have a ton of time to do homework and catch up on some readings. But mostly, I just catch up on sleep and clean my suite in Chancellors House.

Today I am going to be advertising for thinkfast in the education center! Its a five dollar entrance fee and you get to spend the night at school while doing all sorts of fun stuff! there will definitely be more details to come though!

SO today IS probably one of the biggest days i'll experience this year. Today I find out if I got to the next stage of the Don Interview. I remember opening the mailbox and finding out I got to the carousel, I was so excited. It also doesnt help that everybody is telling me to "not worry" because they "know i'll get it". but thats the thing, all that is doing is getting my hopes up and if they dont come true, i'll be even more upset, because apparently i had all these people behind me. I guess this is what its like when you want something so badly. Being a don at nipissing would pretty much make my life because I know i would love the job! Meeting new people, talking problems out, being a leader, being on duty, doing rounds, I consider that all probably one of the best positions of life. Plus, the friends you'd make would be INTENSE.

Oh also, I just got an email from trina prince! dont forget that this saturday is the eddie formal!! everyone should come out! Contact NUSU for more details!

Nipissing Blog! January 14th 2010 -NUSU

Sorry about the late post- had a very lazy day off of school yesterday*

So this week, from what I gather, there is the second semester version of Club Daze in the main hallway past the education center. Club Daze (in september) was probably one of the best things that I think that NUSU offers, apart from FROSH, which is so much fun. But Club Daze allows us to join clubs and associations that Nipissing has to offer. Personally I joined the NUSU Street Team, Nipissing Student Ambassadors, Students On Stage, and the Zombie Club. However that was before I knew all the work that came with my course load i had to drop Students On Stagge and the zombie club, but I will be back one day haha.

I don't really remember my point to this entry. So i guess i'll just talk about my day

Wakeup: 7:00 am.
Class : Math 8:30-11:30
Education 12:30-3:30
Yeah...lets just talk about my education class. THERE WAS A FULLL OUT VERBAL BRAWL.....for a topic for group projects. lol sounds lame i know. However my group along with another group wanted Bullying & Violence, so when i said i wanted it the other group started flipping out! and being the nice group we are we settled for poverty to keep the other group happy. However it seemed like a complicated situation and the prof had us each draw a number, and in that order we would choose our topics. we drew 5th, the other group drew 4th, so we pretty much knew we were not going to get bullying, but the group that drew 3rd picked Bullying. Needless to say the group that drew 4th place were not impressed, however they still did not pick poverty, so that was good. So then we think that everything is all settled the group that chose "healthy schools" thought their topic covered "drugs and alcohol" needless to say the "drugs and alcohol" group was not impressed. then the class went to anarchy, so we're starting over next week. yay for university verbal brawls!

ALSO TODAY I BEAT JENNA MICIC IN AN ARM WRESTLING COMPETITION!

Nipissing Blog! January 13th 2010- KILLER FEET

SO, today was another exciting day in residence! 6th Floor Chanellors House has an annual event in which the floor is pinned against eachother in a battle of the socks! yes, you heard me right. SOCKS. Basically this is the just of the game. You get a target and if you see your target in the hallway, YOU HIT THEM WITH A BALL OF SOCKS! its the most intense game ever. And if you are successful you get there target and you have to get them out and so on and so forth. Tonight it came down to the final showdown between the top killer feeters! It was an intense battle but Rachelle Gingras came out on top and was the first female to win killer feet!

Rachelle is also our VP Finance, just goes to show you how much fun there is to have in residence....

The next game of killer feet will arrive soon and if there is one thing i have learned, it is, DO NOT TRUST ANYBODY.....JOSH LANDRY!
HAHA!

Anyways this was a short little update because basically it was the most exciting thing that happened to me today! aside from a great english and geography lecture, that was fun. Taking a second year course in first year is pretty cool and the information is really interesting and i can definitely tell that the prof knows what he is talking about. Whats to come for tomorrow? I am not too sure because i have thursdays off...i might work on some projects that i have coming up. But you never know.....

Saturday is the second part of the Don sellection process and i am really nervous and excited...i bought a new outfirt and imma look rocking!

Look at that, i found something else to talk about! Attention Nipissing Students: Thinkfast tickets are on sale monday in the main hallway past teh education center! they will be on sale from 11:30-1 and 4:30-6! Thinkfast is a great cause to support an orginization based out of the dominican republic! We basically fast for 24 hours and "sleep" at the school, and when i say sleep, i mean rock band, guitar hero, talking, scavenger hunts and so much more! Its run by teh NUSU Street team and The Delegates! It will be good times! its a 5 dollars admittance fee to confirm you are infact coming! It will take place on February 27th and 28th. You start fasting 1pm saturday, meet at the school at 5 then stay till one the next day, and end the event with a PIZZA DINNER!

Nipissing Blog! January 12th 2010 - Residence

The lovely view out of my bedroom at Nipissing. (From Chancellors House)

Nipissing has four residence complexes, Founders House, Chancellors House, Governors House and Townhouses. While I have only had experiences in Founders and Chancellors, i imagine that the other two are equally fun.

Residence is such a great experience for everybody who chooses to live in it. There is always something exciting going on and there is never a dull moment. They say Frosh Week is the place where you will meet friends that will last a lifetime, while that is true, the bonds that are created in residence prove to be much stronger. You see these people everyday and you have no choice but to love them. Being in first year it was a great choice to live in residence

Most first year students hear that governors house is the "place to be" for first year, well, that is what i thought. And when I received my letter for chancellors house I was a little upset by it. However not even a week in, i realized that i had found the best complex and i was lucky to be a part of such a close community! Especially on 6th floor, we all know eachother and all hang out, so its very esay to make friends!

Residence Council provides different activities throughout the year that gives us a great break from the stresses of school work. We have nights like karaoke nights, movie nights, pizza nights, games nights, scavenger hunts, outdoor hockey, snow soccer and much much more! It is run by the Residence COuncil VP's with the help of their chairs and floor reps!

There are many positions within residence that you can apply for that could help you stay up to date and involved in all the cool events happening at residence.

Each Residence Complex have Residence Dons which are your go to people if you need help with your roommates, social problems, homesick, personal problems, homework, or even if you need somebody to talk to. They are a great bunch and help so much around residence!

Nipissing Blog! January 11th 2010

Hello fellow Nipissing Univeristy Students

Today is the first of many entries that I am going to be posting over the course of the next few months for the blog contest at Nipissing University

There are probably a lot better things that I can be doing with my time, like maybe paying attention during Stan Lawlor's Sociology Class, or maybe preparing for Floor Rep Training on sunday the 17th or even...dare I say it?....studying..All I know is that this is a great way to break away from school and stuff.

So what is going on here at Nipissing for me?
I just applied to be a Residence Don, which is very exciting to me. I submitted my application on thursday and am PATIENTLY waiting (and hoping) for an email from the selection committee stating that I have made it to the Don Carousel, which would be awesome for me, such an honour.

Then tonight I am meeting with Trina Prince and the NUSU Street team for our first meeting of the new year which I am pumped about.

In all honesty this school is such a great environment and there are so many oppurtunities to reach out and meet new people around every corner! Since coming to nipissing for the first time this year, i have joined Students on Stage, NUSU Street Team, NUSA (Nipissing Student Ambassadors), Residence Council, Residence Social Council and a floor Rep for Chancellors House!

That brings me to another point. Residence. Residence here at Nip is just fantastic. From my experiences the Dons are all great people and easy to talk to and make the environment all the more enjoyable to live in. Not only the dons but the VP's for Reisdence Council work so hard to make sure that us residents have the most enjoyable time. I recently attended Live From Saturday Night at Founders House which was just a great time. Rock Band, Karaoke, Friendship Bracelets, Fondu, Chips, Juice and DISNEY SCENE IT! Oh jeez, that was a great night

Well before I start to ramble here is the just of it. I want to win this contest, so I have set an alarm on my iphone for every day at 3:30pm EST I will update this blog and keep you guys updated on what is going on here at NU.!

P.S There is a man selling crazy fun hats in the education center in front of PALS. The hats are shaped like monkeys, they are epic win
